Zeng Xiaojun 曾小俊

About the Artist

Zeng Xiaojun graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and then moved to the United States where he lived in Boston for fourteen years. His growth as a Chinese scholar took place in America where he developed a connoisseurship in Chinese furniture and objects of a scholar’s studio. Zeng is a collector of Chinese antiques which inspire his art. He looks to the literati tradition, particularly of the Ming Dynasty which is evident in his early work of landscapes and recent ones of trees.

His work uses delicate wet and dry brush techniques in lines, dots and strokes to interpret Classical Chinese scholars’ fascination with rocks, intertwined old trees, roots, etc.

In his work, the traditional high culture of China becomes reinvigorated and reinterpreted for contemporary tastes.

Zeng Xiao Jun’s work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
